Grammy Award-winning artist, Elton John, gave a shout-out on Twitter for a tribute performance over the weekend by the marching bands from the University of Iowa and Ohio State University.

Elton John thanked the Bands for the ‘Incredible’ Tribute. Elton John sent thanks and praise to the Ohio State Marching Band and Iowa’s Hawkeye Marching Band after a halftime tribute to the legendary songwriter during an NCAA matchup between the universities’ football teams in Columbus on October 22.

Sir Elton John, born March 25, 1947, is an English singer, pianist, and composer. Elton John is also known as the “Rocket Man” after his 1972 hit single of the same name. John has led a successful career as a solo artist since the 1970s, having released 31 albums since 1969.

Some of the songs featured in the show were “Crocodile Rock,” “Rocket Man,” and, “I’m Still Standing,” among other of his famous hits.

Elton John retweeted a video of the tribute and described the bands as having “incredible dedication with so much creativity!”

The Ohio State University Marching Band replied to the tweet saying, “We are honored! So glad you enjoyed the show, Sir Elton!”

The Hawkeye Marching Band said, “It was an honor” to perform with the Ohio State band to celebrate Elton John’s “incredible music and legacy.”

The performance came at halftime during the college football game between the Hawkeyes and the Buckeyes on Saturday at Ohio Stadium in Columbus.

It was the first time the Ohio State marching band performed a full halftime show combined with another marching band at the stadium in almost 30 years.

The show was a tribute to Sir Elton John. Ohio State music professor Doctor William McDaniel put the show together. McDaniel received his doctorate at the University of Iowa.
